Angels and Second Chances

Angels

First and foremost, I've had the honor to lunch with two amazing Survivors this past week. We had never met before but were friends via Facebook and mutual friends. They are angels. Absolutely beautiful women; full of life, strength and love. One graced me with a beautiful gift:

The "Traveling KC&CO (Keep Calm & Carry On) Bracelet."

A bracelet worn by her as well as 3 other Survivors. It's been passed along as a symbol of strength, encouragement and calm. She placed it on my wrist and there it will stay "as long as you need it to." A new lifelong, unforgettable friend.

Second Chances

Today, we went to see Dr Pamela Wright, Medical Director of the Breast Center of Suburban Hospital / Johns Hopkins. She was decisive, confident and articulate. She didn't deliver any better news (yet! I am still hopeful) but she told me exactly what she wanted to do and she didn't leave my creative mind to wander.

Atypical does not always mean cancer.

And right now...we do not know.

I needed this positive approach!!!

I think she stopped counting tumors out loud at 8 or 9. Crazy, right!?! She said a few weren't as worrisome (good!) Others are "highly suspicious" (grrr!)  Those are the ones that have the atypical pathology and have to come out no matter what.  At a minimum, I will have a lumpectomy because "the big C" can only be ruled out by removing these critters entirely and doing a full biopsy. There are a few other "questionable" tumors that were previously labeled as "guilty by suspicion." Because of their placement, they (along with their pathology) carry the rest of the fate of my breast.  She biopsied those right there in her office. I loved that she didn't send me to the hospital to have this done (no waiting!!!)

She gathered her team and took charge.

Anyone that knows me knows that I really needed that too!!!

I've now had 5 biopsies since August. These results are due Friday.  Until then...I wait.

Again, my favorite:

Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; And hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. (Romans 5:3, 5 NIV)
